I feel like the winter months are the ultimate season for blending up healthy, nutrient-rich latte blends. There’s nothing like getting cozy with a warming blend on a cold winters day— whether it’s to get yourself energized for the day ahead, or to help you wind down after a long day, there’s a healthy blend out there for any mood! Today’s Coco-Nut Blended Latte recipe I’m sharing is dairy free, easy on digestion, nutrient-rich, energizing, vegan friendly, and caffeine free— however, you can always add a shot of espresso if you desire!
Let’s talk ingredients…
Coconut milk // I love this nutritious, energy-rich dairy free alternative! Coconut milk contains a good source of medium-chain fatty acids that are easier to digest and help support neurological health. The MCT’s (medium-chain triglycerides) found in coconut milk are used up quickly and easily by the brain for energy. The brain relies on healthy fats for proper functioning— the calorie content in coconut milk provides a great source of efficient brain energy. Coconuts also contain an excellent source of lauric acid, approximately half of the fatty acid content within coconuts is laruic acid. This healthy fat in particular contains antiviral and antibacterial properties. According to an article containing recent studies from NCBI, lauric acid is a type of fatty acid that supports heart health. In addition, this completely dairy-free milk alternative is easier on digestion when compared to regular milk. It also nurtures the gut due to its healthy fat and electrolyte content.
Raw cacao powder // I live for the rich, chocolatey goodness cacao powder delivers. This superfood powder comes packed with flavanoids, antioxidants, magnesium, copper, potassium, iron, sulfur, phytonutrients, and phenylethylamine— all of these nutrients contain many health benefits such as increased energy, alertness, mood, and focus.
Himalayan salt // Traditional table salt is highly processed and stripped of its mineral content. True quality Himalayan salt (AKA pink salt) is one of the most beneficial salts out there. The nutrition in pink salt delivers over 80 minerals and trace elements including iron, magnesium, copper, potassium, and calcium. In addition, Himalayan salt can help regulate water content in the body, helps absorb particles through the intestinal tract, prevents muscle cramping, promotes healthy bones, and promotes a healthy pH balance in the body.
Cashew butter // I am in LOVE with cashews— cashew butter especially! Rich in healthy fats, fiber, and plant protein, cashews add a creamy goodness to smoothies, homemade mylks, homemade dressings/sauces, and are even more delicious when spread on toast as a nut butter with some banana or hemp hearts. In my opinion they’re the most versatile, healthy, best tasting nut on the market! Cashews are believed to have beneficial effects as they support heart health, brain health, and help improve nutrient absorption and energy levels. A 2014 article states that the consumption of nuts is associated with reduction in oxidative damage, inflammation, and improvement in immune functions.
Enjoy this energy packed blended latte in the morning to perk up and kick-start your day feeling nourished and energized, or in the early afternoon for a mid-day boost. I personally like to enjoy a blend like this first thing in the morning after my morning lemon water. Then I’ll eat my breakfast a few hours following as I don’t always eat first thing when I wake up.
COCO-NUT BLENDED LATTE
An energizing blended latte recipe to help perk you up with balanced energy. Loaded with chocolatey healthy goodness, caffeine free, dairy free, vegan friendly, and rich in nutrients your body will thank you for.
Serves: 1 | Time: 5 minutes | Difficulty: Easy
- 3/4 cup boiling coconut milk, I used Cha’s Organics Premium canned coconut milk
- 1/2 cup boiling water
- 1 tbsp raw cacao powder
- Pinch of Himalayan salt, or sea salt
- 2 tsp organic pure maple syrup, optional for natural sweetness
- 2 tsp raw cashew OR almond butter, for added creamy goodness
- optional – 1 shot of organic espresso or 1 packet of Four Sigmatic Mushroom Coffee
- Boil coconut milk and water together then add all ingredients to a high-speed blender and blend until smooth and frothy. Pour into your favourite mug, and enjoy!
